Report from Jim Woolridge
It was a lot of fun and the weather was nice. There was a little wind in the morning but it died down around mid morning with comfortable temperatures around 65 degrees. The water tems were 58.5 to 62.1 degrees on my lowrances. Tony Christie won it with five fish at 16+, his first club win and he was really excited. 2nd place was Ray Covert at 15+, 3rd was Chuck Peak at 14+ and 4th was Mike Ponce at 13+. I came in 5th with 12.31 pounds, Mike Ponce had big fish with one around five. Tony, Ray, Chuck and I caught our fish on drop shot, trick worms, swamp crawlers and jigs. Mike Ponce was using jigs and frogs around tules.
Report from Mike Ponce
Here are a few pictures from the tournament. Tony C. took 1st with 16.50 +, I was 2nd with 15.50 + and big fish of 4.54. I don't remember who was 3rd, but Ray was 4th with 14.50 +. Most of the guys were throwing plastics. I caught 4 of my fish on a jig in less than 2 feet of water at the base of tules and my last fish was on a frog, really! We had a slight wind off and on in the morning then it was like glass and warm. It was a cloudless bright sunny day with temp about 70*-75*. The water temp started out at 59* then rose as high as 63*.

TopReport by Jim Woolridge
The results for the Delta tournament was very similar to last month's tournament. The bite was very difficult, probably tougher than the September afternoon tournament. The weather was nice, but cold for that first run in the morning at around 50 degrees. The winds were not much of a factor all day, it blew a little stronger in the afternoon to 20 MPH.
We ran to the tract where I almost quickly caught a 3.0 on?? You guessed it, Swamp Crawler. I threw that thing all day and it proved to be the winner at 13.8+ pounds. Ray and I ran around in the central Delta (Franks, Old River, Sandmound, False River) to catch a few fish. Chuck was 2nd with a 11+ and Darwin was 3rd with 11+, Mike Johnson was 4th with 10+ and Mike Ponce was 5th almost 10 and big fish, Ray was 6th.
There were a few that blanked and overall some small weights including 1st place. Hard to believe two tournaments can be won in successive month at less than 14 pounds on the Delta - go figure. Mike Ponce had big fish with at 5.35#s, I believe Darwin had the second biggest fish with one over 5.
1st place - Jim Woolridge with 5 bass for 13.74 lbs.

Report by Jim Woolridge
It was really a tough bite on the Delta Saturday. The weather was fine with temperatures in the 83-89 degree range. The winds were howling however, it blew at 20-25 miles per hour. I stayed in Frank's tract most of time working in the big winds and white caps. It was really difficult to control the boat but we (Mike Barnett) and I stuck to it and did O.K. in the tournament. Mike and I both caught small limits, I culled a couple of fish and Mike had five with the last one coming at the end. I surprisingly finished 1st with 12+ something with a 3.99 second big fish, Mike was 2 nd with 10+ and Adam was 3rd with 9+. Mike Ponce had big fish for the tournament with a 4.4+. The bite was really difficult with only a hand full of limits.

Report by Jim Woolridge
The Clearlake tournament was a lot of fun. I fished with Tony Christie and we had a blast. The weather was fine but it was windy almost all the time, typically around 15-25 MPH with white caps and really big swells. Tony and I pre-fished the weekend before and we were on fish pretty good. During both prefish and the tournament we caught fish mostly on plastics, Swamp Crawlers, Trick worms but we also used Jigs and frogs and did ok.
A group of us stayed at the Lake Escape Resort and it was OK just pricey for what you get. It would be OK if you were there for a week or longer as a vacation but not a good value. It is still fun to be with the guys though.
There was also a speed water skiiing competition of about 80 racing boats and it was awesome. These boats were going 120 miles per hour with skiers in tow racing from Redbud to Anderson Island and back. There were three heat of several laps each. Those boats had several engines or a big 500+ HP engine.
Anyway the fishing was a little tough on day one and we caught a limit each. I culled about 15 fish on day 1 and was in 1st place after day one, Chuck in 2nd, Tony C in 3rd and caught five keepers. I had big fish for day one with a 5.8 something. We caught all our fish around Jago and Rattlesnake in the nastiest/windiest places we could find.
I was feeling pretty good going into Sunday but my confidence soon was tested. It took an hour before I caught a 1.5 pounder then a second rat 30 minutes later. Tony Caught a 2.0 and then a 1.5, I then proceeded to catch a 3.0 and a 2.75 back to back. I was culling ounces but could not get that big bite. About an hour before weigh-in Tony starts getting bites on a 1/2 oz jig but kept missing them. I figured they were all small fish since it was happening to him almost every cast. Then he hooks into a 5 pounder and it comes off fairly easy. I start watching him set the hook and he is doing a sweep set. I say to him "Tony, you have to set the hook on a jig fish like you are trying the rip his head off and very quickly after the first tap" . I also told him to " let the rod feel the rocks and the bite and not to use the reel . The first tap is the fish picking up the jig, the second tap a slpit second later is the fish spitting it out". I told him " you have to be quick and strong when jig fishing" . He adjusts his technique and starts loading the boat with nice fish, one 5.5 then a 4.0 and a 3.8. He only had time to catch four fish and I obviously switch to a jig and I catch a 3.8 then it was time to go to weigh-in.
Scott had big fish on day 2 with his 10.9#er, he also had another nice fish around 8 pounds. Mike Barnett had a really nice bag on day 2 with a 9+ kicker. Amazing that a 9+ is not big fish on a 5+ takes the award on day 1.
Temperature was around 92 degrees in the day and 55 at night, water temperature was 73.6 - 77.1 degrees on my Lowrance. We want to thank Phoebe for supplying cold bottled water, fresh baked cookies and brownies at weight-in, that was really nice of her.

Wow!!! What a finish!!! Congratulations to Mike Johnson for the 29 pound two day 1 st place finish with Day 1 Big Fish. Mike nailed his big fish on a chatterbait in Discovery Bay . This was Joe Nicolai first time placing in the money. Joe threw a rattletrap in Franks Track for the two day 2 nd place of 26 pounds. This is 2 nd place finish was Joe's first time placing in the money. Steve Yee surprised everyone with his 3 rd place. This was Steve's first tournament of the year. He was also throwing a lipless crankbait in Franks Track.
On Day 1, we fished the evening bite. It was a little breezy but not cold. Mike Johnson brought a 20 pound limit to the scales. The closest weight was a 10 pound limit caught by Mario Jorge for Day 1 2 nd place. Tim Chapman weighed in a 8 pound Day 1 3 rd place limit. Awesome!!!
Now Day 2 was another story. We had three personal bests for Jerry, Joe, & Steve. Jerry Boyd blanked on Saturday but spanked the big boys on Sunday. Jerry weighed in 20.99 lbs. limit on Day 2. He almost gave up, but he the rattletrap bite in Franks Track changed his mind. Joe Nicolai was Jerry's partner in Franks Track. Joe weighed in a nice 18 pound limit. With the help of Mike Barnett, Steve also found a 17 pound limit in Franks Track. Mike happens to be this month's top Dawg with 90 pounds to-date, Ray Covert landed his Day 2 Big Fish on a Kuttail Senko.

Report by Mike Ponce written to Mark Eglesia:
Mark-E(Marcos),
Clearlake bite was on! Ray and I went up Fri. and got on the water at 7am. We drove all the way up in a light rain. The rain stopped as soon was we pulled into the ramp. There was a good (yeah!) cloud cover all day. From Lucerne we ran north to some docks on the Lucerne side with no luck. Decided to fish the tules before Rodman entrance. Good choice. Got on a jig bite that lasted about 3 hours. I have been practicing pitching the jig, working on a splashless entry. My fish were on 2 foot bunchs of tules with 1 foot shadows in front. The key was splashless entry, which I made every 4-5 pitches. Still working on it! I was sticking 2 1/2-3 lbers. Went into Rodman and stuck a 4 on wood. Worked our way back to the canal on the right and started catching 2 lb + fish on tules next to wood on Kut-tails with 1/16 oz weighted hooks. Off the water at 1 pm to meet Jim and Mario at Lake Escape for lunch.
Back on the water at 3 , but the wind was blowing. Went into Cache Creek to hide from the wind. Slow until we make a turn into a windless channel. Stuck a 4.11 on a brush hog on wood. Ray makes the next cast back to the same wood and sticks a 4 even. See Jim and Mario in Cache as they head back in. Jim calls me 5 minute later, tells me I better come in . The main lake now has 3' white caps. Rainsuits go on, what a ride that was! Best 5 for the day about 18 lbs.
Oh by the way, Tim calls to tell me he is not going to make it. Fishing solo. Just fine with me except it makes it an expensive trip $350, OUCH!
Ok, now I have a game plan. We are launching out of Lucerne so I'm starting on the tule line before Rodman pitching the jig. Miss a 3 lber right off the bat. No non-boater to net the fish right at the boat(should have swang it into the boat). Catch 2 short fish. I get impatient and go into Rodman. Fish the same wood as the day before and miss the 4 lber, SHIT! Start to work the canal, get my 1st fish at 8am. Work back 1/2 way for 4 fish on tules with the kut-tails for about 10 lbs. Decide to run to Henderson Pt. big mistake. NEVER LEAVE FISH TO FIND FISH! Struggle for my limit fish until 2:47, weigh in 11 1/2 lbs at 3:30pm.
Day 2 launch out of Redbud. Jim W gives me a great tip for day 2(thanks Jim). Run to the beach before Wheeler Pt. and get a limit before 7:30 with a 4 lber. Wind is getting bad about 10:30am. Run to Cache to hide from the wind. I catch a 2 on the wood with the 4 lbers from the day before. Where are the 4's? Work the banks with wood, tules and shade the rest of the day. Cull 4 fish with 2 lb clones on the kut-tails. The key was corners with wood, tules and shade in less than 2' of water. Fish were right on the bank. Saw Bob G and Mark P. They were struggling so I gave them my tip on Cache Creek and they started to catch them. Mark P miss a TOAD 7-8 lbs. I ended up with 14 lbs for the day and 25 1/2 for the tournament, 13th place. Sat. & Sun were both bluebird skys with 75* Sat. and 80*s Sun.
Winner were the Stren guys. Steve E 41 lbs, Jim W 39 lbs and Chuck P with 38 lbs.
Sorry for the BOOK, but I know you have not been fishing for awhile, THAT'S MY STORY AND I'M STICKING TO IT!
Report by Mike Johnson:
Someone is always going to pull out a biggen at Clearlake. Warm weather, about mid 80's and water in the mid 60's. Day 1 had some mild wind but it really picked up for day 2. Lots of fish caught throwing senkos because of cinco de mayo. Steve caught his fish throwing trickworms, huddleston , and basstrix swimbaits. Jim threw a swamp crawler and trickworms. Chuck threw cut-tail senkos to get his fish. Don got most of his fish on sweet beavers. For myself I was on the right technique but not the right fish. My best pattern was skipping docks with senkos. Big fish were everywhere, suspended under docks but catching them was a different story.

Top Fishing Report by Mike Johnson (Tournament Director):
It was a great day on the water with air temps about 70 and water temp in the mid 50's. Adam was able to pull off a second first place win. We should have known, with the lakes that he picked. Adam said he caught his fish with a darthead worm / junk fishing. Mario Caught his big fish using a drop-shot with a pink worm. Most fish were caught in the 40 to 50 foot depth range using finesse tactics aka dropshotting. 13 limits of fish caught and Tim's girlfriend Lesley even hooked a nice spot. Congrats to Mike Barnett with his second win, with second place this year.

Lots of fish caught between 13 and 14 for me. hard to get alot over 15". water was clear, weather was cold in the morning but sunny with clouds moving in the afternoon. water temp was low 50's. no rangers to speak of that i saw.adam said he caught his fish on a dart head worm. I forgot what steve and mike were throwing.
Mike Ponce:
we fished in the slot limit, keepers had to be 15" or better. most guys caught plenty of fish just not 15". lots of FAT 12 1/2",13" and 14"ers. water temp was 52* - 53.5*, COLD in the morning then beautiful and warm in the afternoon. the lake was calm with a slight wind every now and then. very nice day on the water. we caught all our fish (25+ bewteen us) on the dropshot in 30'-50'. my big fish was on a weightless senko in 3' of water along a barb wire fence that ran into the water. no DFG contact. i heard most everyone was dropshotting, darthead or senkos.
Adam McAndrews:
Hey steve, I caught my fish on a shakey head/darter head with a green pumpkin finesse worm, and so did Mike B. Steve Ericksen was dropshotting. We were all fishing in the Temperance arm, so was Mike Ponce. If we had had the permit we would have weighed in alot more fish....oh well.
