This was a Turkey Shoot and did not count against yearly totals for points or pounds. Next year we will go to a 12 tournament schedule and they will all count. But, the checks were written and awards presented. Fishing was fair for December. Cold in the morning at about freezing but warmer in the afternoon. The fog only lasted half of the day. Water temperature about 56 degrees. Wonder if anyone knew where they caught their fish? Not bad for this time of the year. Only one 7 fish limit was caught.
John Lake and Eric Howard had 7 fish for 6.47 pounds and took first place. All on spinner baits bumlng near the surface. Mark Eglesia and Marlo Jorge had 2 fish for 5.17 pounds and took second place. They also had big fish of 3.88 pounds. The big fish came on a jig. Bill Lee and Amold took third place with 4.24 pounds. They were also fishing jigs. Bob Greneveld should have had a special award for a 13 inch smallmouth that weighed only 8 ounces.
Of the 21 fishermen there was only 1 limits and 9 boats. Totals were 32.31 pounds, 31 bass with an average weight per man of 1.54 pounds and an average of 1.48 fish for each angler. The average fish size was 1.04 pounds. 15 Spots, 13 Largemouth, and 3 Smallmouth.
Gary Cromp should have received the good guy award. Bob Greneveld bumed out a trailer bearing on the way home. Gary saw Bob on the side of the road and stopped to help. Gary had a set of wheel bearings in his truck and put the new bearings in for Bob. Gary, thanks for demonstrating what this Club is about!

This was our ninth toumament of the year. A lot of fish were caught but they ran very small!. A 1.02 pound average. Most of the fish were skinny spots (45). Eight largemouth and one smallmouth were caught. Even the largemouth were skinny. All fish were caught deep, probably at 20 feet or deeper.

We always need a little confusion. We got it. The scale was set on ounces, not hundredths of a pound. This was not noticed until the weigh in was over. Your weigh in slips are wrong! If you had 1.14 it was 1 pound 14 ounces. That converts to 1.88. The weights have been converted to hundredths on the attached tournament results and pounds for the year sheets. Your position may have also changed as a result. For example, 1.14 and 1.80. If the numbers are ounces but read as pounds then 1.8 would be larger. BUT 14 ounces is larger than 8 ounces. Dang!

This was our eighth tournament of the year and our second two day tournament. A lot of fish were caught but not many made the slot limit. Eight to be exact. Four on Saturday and four on Sunday. This is what makes a 50 fish day so memorable. Who said that bass fishermen were smart. I gotta leak in my boat said one. So go ahead said the other.

The big fish was caught on a Speed Trap on the outside edge of a weed line with a 10 foot drop off. Chuck Peak had 5 fish for 11.74 pounds and took second place. Chuck also had a nice 6.73 pound kicker. Chuck caught all of his fish on a 6 inch green weanie worm near Coney Island. Dave Glover had 5 fish for 9.86 pounds and took third place. Dave was fishing Fishermans Cut and Franks Tract using a spinnerbait and a 6 inch worm.

The Top Six participants decided at the last minute not to fish Top Six. Instead they had a club Tournament Of Champions. The Top Six entry fee was refunded and that money was used for the Tournament Of Champions. The TOC was at the same lake and even the same ramp on the same day as Top Six. Some of the guys even went to the Top Sixraffle. A much better deal. It did not cost the club any more but greatly increased the odds of winning something. We should consider doing this every year.
The decision was actually made on Sunday morning at the club Clear Lake toumament. We could not fish that morning because of weather. At breakfast, we ran into the Bass Classics having breakfast in the same restaurant. We reised the point with them that there were almost no Top Six entrants and many two man teams. A lot of locals and some professionals. Not a good deal or what we expected. They agreed to refund our entry fee.
The team of Eddie King and Mike Schley won the TOC with 18.10 pounds and also took big fish of 6.07 pounds. Bill Zeigler and Jon Maynard took second place with 13.93 pounds. Mark Eglesia and Robert Ramirez took third with 13.80 pounds.

This was our first tournament of the year. This is what memories are made of. A beautiful morning that lasted until nearly 8:30 AM then a little rain followed by wind followed by a lot of rain and a lot more wind. Nice enough for one brave person to take a swim. It was so cold that even Lawyers were keeping their hands in their own pockets.
Mark Eglesia had 5 fish for 14.75 pounds and took first place. Bill Zeigler had 3 fish for 10.37 pounds and took second place. Bill also had the big fish of 6.10 pounds. Gary Cromp had 3 fish for 7.80 pounds and took third place.
Of the 17 fishermen there was only one limit and only 9 weighed in fish. It was tough, with 5 people weighing in only one fish and 8 blanking. Totals were 55.30 pounds, 19 fish with an average weight of 3.25 and an average of 1.12 fish for each angler. A good average weight but not enough fish caught.
Those of us who were at home with the Flu thank you. It's so much easier when we know what we missed.
