Revised Shared Expense Guideline

May 2, 2006

This shared expense guideline supersedes the April 6, 2004 guideline. The 2004 guide was established to provide consistency and clarity to shared expenses between boaters and non-boaters during club tournaments. However fuel costs have increased considerably since 2004 thus requiring us to update our guideline. Again, realizing that no two boats or tow vehicles are the same, these guidelines will utilize the average fuel consumption. Additional expenses like hotel, food and other expenses should be split between the boater and non boater as prescribed in the previous guide. In addition to distance I also took into consideration the size of the lake and made adjustments for additional boat fuel costs.

Lake Name Miles-One way 1 Day shared cost 2 Day shared cost

Anderson/Calero 15 $30.00 $50.00

Clearlake 174 $70.00 $100.00

Delta (Orwood) 65 $40.00 $70.00

Don Pedro 110 $60.00 $90.00

Folsom 150 $65.00 $90.00

Berryessa 115 $60.00 $90.00

New Melones 108 $60.00 $90.00

Oroville 182 $80.00 $110.00

Pine Flat 165 $70.00 $95.00

Nacimento 140 $65.00 $90.00

Shasta 259 $110.00 $140.00

Sonoma 155 $70.00 $95.00

The boater and non boater should make every effort to travel together to and from the lake. If the non boater chooses to travel alone then he/she is still responsible for the shared expenses per the schedule above. It is highly encouraged that they travel together since this allows time to discuss fishing plans and strategy, companionship in route and support in case of travel emergency.

My typical costs for a 2 day Clearlake tournament

2006 Yukon @ 11 miles per gallon towing for 400 miles @ 3.50 per gallon = $127.00

2005 Ranger w/ 250 Yamaha @ 3.50 per gallon

52 of 52 gallons = $182.00 > used full tank of fuel

39 of 52 gallons = $136.50

26 of 52 gallons = $91.00

13 of 52 gallons = $45.50

•  Truck $127.00 + Boat $182.00 = $309.00 in gas, plus oil at $20.00/gallon

1 day Clearlake tournament

52 of 52 gallons = $182.00

39 of 52 gallons = $136.50

26 of 52 gallons = $91.00 > used full tank of fuel

13 of 52 gallons = $45.50

•  Truck $127.00 + Boat $91.00 = $218.00 in gas, plus oil at $20.00/gallon

1 day Delta tournament

52 of 52 gallons = $182.00

39 of 52 gallons = $136.50

26 of 52 gallons = $91.00 > used ½ tank of fuel

13 of 52 gallons = $45.50

•  Truck $41.00 + Boat $91.00 = $132.00 in gas, plus oil at $20.00/gallon

Launch fee is $10.00

Again, these guidelines are suggested to be fair to the boater and non-boater. The intent is not to defray the complete cost of operation for the boater. Typically, the cost for those of us with larger rigs is higher. A two day tournament at Clearlake for example will cost over $300 in gas, plus meals, hotel and incidentals. Even in smaller boats and trucks the average fuel cost will be over $200.00 for a two day Clearlake tournament and over $125.00 for a one day tournament at Clearlake. I have used my boat and truck as a guide and the actual costs might be different.

Let discuss at the next meeting, Jim

Shared Expense Guidelines for Boaters/Non Boater
4/6/2004

In an effort to provide some consistency and clarity to the shared expense situation I have created this guideline. As we all know the cost of operating boats and tow vehicles today are very expensive and getting higher as gas prices go up. The financial impacts to boat owners have increased significantly. It is recommended that these guidelines be the standards for 2004, realizing that different boats and tow vehicles use various amounts of gas and oil. It is not intended to fully off set the cost of boat or tow vehicle operation.

Us boat owners bought our crafts and vehicles for our personal enjoyment and did so in part without considering anyone else helping to pay for the cost of operation. As non-boater we made the decision to fish as a back-seater in part considering the high cost of boat ownership and our current financial or life’s situations.

The non-boater should make every effort (within reason) to ride with the boater to and from the lake, and stay at the same facility as the boater to defray the financial impacts. It is an opportunity to dialogue, share ideas regarding strategies and techniques. In the event they go at different times or by different means the non-boater is still obligated to the payment schedule above.

Additionally the cost of hotels, launch fees and or other living accommodations should be a shared expense between the boater and non-boater for the time they spend together. If they arrive at different time at the hotel/motel, then they should split the fees for the time actually spent together. In the event the boater owns a camper or RV and the non-boater stays in the RV, then they should split the camping/launching fees and meals for the nights the non-boater is staying.

These are just recommended guidelines and subject to modification by the members of Gilroy Bassmasters. As a minimum travel plans, financial term and conditions should be discussed and agreed upon between the boater and non-boater prior to the trip.

Your thoughts and input are welcome.

Jim

Typical Costs for me

2 day Clear Lake Tournament in my 1998 (GMC Yukon) @ 12 miles per gallon at 400 miles @ $2.15 per gallon = $77.00

2001 20.5' Ranger w/225 Mercury Opti-Max at $2.15 a gallon
48 of 48 gallons = $104
36 of 48 gallons = $73 <--- used 3/4 tank of gas
24 of 48 gallons = $52
12 of 48 gallons = $26

example: $73 (boat) + $77 (car) = $150

1 day Delta Tournament in my 1998 (GMC Yukon) @ 12 miles per gallon at 150 miles @ $2.15 per gallon = $28
48 of 48 gallons = $104
36 of 48 gallons = $73
24 of 48 gallons = $52 <--- used 1/2 tank of gas
12 of 48 gallons = $26

example: $52 (boat) + $28 (car) = $80

Launch Fee = $10
