Wow, we broke the 52 week high three tournaments in a row. On this last tournament there were 26 fishermen. That's thirteen boats on Calero. The lake had dropped 6 feet from the previous week. It was a perfect morning to go fishing. The rain held out until noon. Air temp was in the 60's. The water was glass calm, with temp around 52 degrees. After the big report of 16 pound stringers, we were expecting a limit in every boat. NOT!! It was a tough bite. Most of the fish came within 10 feet from the shore. And there were at least 2 boats on all the good spots. Steve snagged a 21 pound carp on his 5th cast. That scared most of the bass away. We found all the secret spots on Calero by watching Vince zoom back and forth on the lake. He'd say, “Hi, how's the bite?”, catch one fish then zoom to the next spot.
Clark Foster landed a GRAND SLAM by dropshotting the shore with a 4”
hand pour. Way to go Clark! We even heard Gayla pulled in a nice one while making
Clark a sandwich. Jim Woolridge placed 2nd place with his now famous 6”
Robo Zipper worm. Chuck weighed in 3rd place with none other than the little
brown worm. Way to go guys!!

Wow!!! Our BIGGEST turnout for the year!! That is 21 Bass fishermen. And there was almost no wind until noon time. A little fog in the Franks Track area, but all in all, it was a nice day for a tournament. The air temperature was in high 80’s. The water temperature was in the mid 60’s. Oh, by the way, it was opening day for duck season. There is nothing like the sound of duck calls and a 12 gauge going off next to the boat in the morning.
Chuck almost landed a grand slam. He missed big fish by .02 lbs. Chuck caught his win by throwing senkos in Franks Track. Way to go Chuck! Ray with his big fish of 5.77 lbs. put him in 2nd place. Ray’s didn’t have to travel far. He caught most of his fish near the ramp, on the little brown worm. Clark came in a respectable 3rd place throwing senkos in, where else?! Disco!
1st place - Darrell Allen with 5 bass for 9.23 lbs.The weather wasn't as nice as Saturday. The wind kicked up around 10am. But the air temperature was still in the mid 80's. The tide seemed a little stronger Sunday, probably because of the wind.
It's better to be lucky than good. Darrell did it twice. Not only did Darrell
& Bob catch their winning weight in 20 minutes, on an incoming tide, Darrell
got his dinner comp'd. They caught their bass on senkos and dead ringers on
the southern end of Franks Track. Clark and Bill came in a close 2nd place,
throwing rattle traps in Discovery Bay. Don & Ron won 3rd place with only
3 bass. Wow, and just think if they had thrown the blades a little faster,
they could have had two more bass in the boat. Jim Woolridge caught the 4.67
lbs. big fish on his favorite Robo Zipper worm.
1st place - Darrell Allen & Bob Greneveld for 5 bass for 10.18 lbs., big
fish 3.45 lbs.

So, it was too hot to fish on Friday, literally. It was a blistering 100+ degrees by 10am. The water was in the mid 80’s. During July through September, our club is bound by the Fish and Game Regulations to limit tournaments to 6 hours. From what I heard the bite was on during the weekday. That changed on the weekend. Not a big frog or senko bite. Most of the fish were at the end of the docks near deep water.
Darrell almost pulled a grand slam by drop shotting. He missed the big fish on the second day, but weighed in 10 bass for 23.73 lbs. Chuck gave Darrell a run for his money, by catching 10 bass for 23.40 lbs for a respectable 2nd place. Although, Bob Bartolo was fishing as a guest and was not eligible for 3rd place prizes, he did very nice with 10 bass for 21.82 lbs. Ron Hunnewell came back from behind and did place 3rd with 7 bass for 20.92 lbs. Maybe Ron will tell us how he caught his fish at Thursday’s meeting.
