Fishing report by Chuck Peak
It was a tough bite, but the club did well. Beautiful weather, a really great BBQ, pretty good raffle, a chance to see old friends and socialize with friends in the club. A day on the water is never bad.
Next year we get the trophy!
Seven clubs came to the River today to compete for this title, one that dates back to the late 80s when it was the Top Six Tournament. Each club brought their 12 man team (6 boats) to compete for this long running Club fishing title. A big thanks goes out to the Delta Bass Club for grabbing the reigns and keeping the traditions of this event alive.
Look for that Giant, Perennial, Tri-pod trophy in the office at Russo's to be sporting a new champion name for the following year!
The final results are as follows:
1st place - Sacramento Bass Wranglers with 58.95 lbs., $2000
2nd place - Delta Bass Club with 53.50 lbs., $1225
3rd place - Bass Anglers of Nor. Calif with 48.40 lbs., $720
4th place - Gilroy Bassmasters with 47.15 lbs.
5th place - Contra Costa Bass Club with 38.90 lbs.
6th place - Bass Classics of Santa Clara Valley with 34.35 lbs.
7th place - Bassbusters of Santa Clara with 27.85 lbs.
Big Bass awarded to Delta Bass Club's Darin Jorg for a 8.70 lbs. largemouth bass
Big Team Sack awarded to Delta Bass Club's Jorg & DiSilva for 17.80 lbs.

Fishing Report by Vince Borrego
Clear Lake was fun, hot, full of algae and tough for most. Bob Nathan/Chuck Peak, Mario and myself were the only 4 to have limits day 1. Mario was leading it day 1 with Chuck 2nd, Bob 3rd, myself in 4th and Javier in 5th (and big fish day 1). Day 2 Bob Nathan had just under 21 lbs. to take the win from Mario by .1 lbs even though Mario had another 17 lbs. sack (off of my water both days). According to Chuck Bob had his limit by 7:40AM and was killing them all day.
Either way I had fun and didn't mind the heat too much. It was only 103 up at Clear Lake

Thanks to Scott Povio's great idea, On June 5th we are scheduled to fish Berryessa. All the qualified anglers with then be able to drive or meet at Clearlake and fish the TOC the following day. From what mapquest shows, Clear Lake is another hour and 15 minutes from Berryessa which is shorter then driving home. This way we fish two great lakes in two days.
Here are the teams for the TOC:

Fishing Report by Jim Woolridge
We had a fun time at Lake Sonoma last weekend. Mike Johnson would have won had he been a member, he did get the options. He had a very impressive total with a nice bag on Sunday with a 7.8 pound kicker. Chuck Peak was second and got the official 1st place check. Chuck was steady with nice totals both days. I think Jerry Boyd finished 2nd, Bob Nathan was 3rd and Mario was 4th. Bob Nathan had big fish on Saturday with one close to 5 pounds. Everyone caught fish but it was very tough bite. I will let Ray Covert provide the actual details.
It rained on Saturday but the issue was the wind gusts to 25 MPH on both days. Water temps was 60-62 degrees for us and the water was clear to 3-4 feet before the wind and boat chop caused the mud lines. The weather was a challenge, it was cold over night and the bite was affected by El Nino like every other lake in the west.

Fishing Report by Ray Covert
The fishing was pretty tough. good weather with a slight wind all day, clear skies and about 60-65 most of the day. jerry caught all his fish using the swamp crawler. the big fish came off a main lake point in about 15-20 feet. most of the fish were caught either dropshoting or with the swamp crawler. I caught 2 nice rainbow trout on the swamp crawler before I caught my 1 largemouth. see you at the meeting thursday.. thanks Ray

Fishing Report by Jeff Smith
As for B'yessa, Don won it with 10-something; only a handful of limits. We lucked out with no rain to speak of (until the ride home). Even the temps were tolerable. I was lucky ... See More enough to at least get into the 'top 10' with 4 fish (for whatever that's worth), but I probably wouldn't have if *you* had been fishing with us! ;- )
My first 3 fish were -- 1 largemouth, 1 smallie & 1 spot; caught one cranking, but the rest were on shallow plastics, which seemed to be the ticket for most of the guys. Scott & I caught some off of points, but others off of flats, probably nothing deeper than 15-20 ft, if even that.
Fishing Report by Darwin Ellison
Weather was calm, overcast, mild. There was a large Anglers Choice tournament of about 100 boats, so some competition for spots, fish. Most fish were taken with plastics, drop shot etc. Few if any reaction fish.

Fishing Report by Scott Povio
My fish were 1 smallie, 3 spots and 1 largemouth. I think that was a good ratio as far as what every was catching. The water was 55 degrees, pretty clear about 6 feet of visibility and I would say the lake was down about 40 feet. I know Mario, Jim and I caught most of our fish shallow. I dont think I caught a fish more than 15 feet deep. I caught mine on a oxblood red flake robo worm with a flick shake head. Mario caught fish on drop shot and a scrounger. All of the guys that weighed in limits were fishing in the south end of the lake and the narrows. Guys that went up to Puta creek only caught 1 or 2. And it was a thousand times better than Anderson!!!!
Fishing Report by Jim Woolridge
Mario and I was mostly using the secret bait, that can not be mentioned. We also caught a few on drop shot. I threw a floating swim bait in the morning and well as a 5.5" Mikey. I sprained my shoulder on Tuesday morning when I fell on the frost. So that swim bait was not for me very long. It even hurt when I set the hook on my first fish with the secret bait.
The bite was better when the wind and rains caused a ripple on the water. We fished in the narrows around Little Portugeses mainly rocky points. We would cast to the rocks and work it slowly back toward the boat, the bite was typically very suttle. The fish were shallow to 30 feet. Air temperatures was reasonable at 45 degrees and the water temp was 45-47. The showers came in cells with a little calm in between. All in all a nice time on the water inspite of bad shoulder and a little rain.
The big fish was a nice 3.36 pound smallie by Scott. Mario had mostly spots to two pounds mixed with a couple of largies to the upper 2s. I had a large and the four spots to 2 pounds. 70% of the catch were spots, 10% smallies and 20% largemouth as a guess.

Fishing Report by Jim Woolridge
We had a good time on Anderson but the bite was really tough. Sunny with some afternoon winds to 15 MPH. I am not sure of the exact weights but Jerry Boyd won it with 8+, I was 2nd with 7+ on the bait that shall not be mentioned and Don was 3rd with 7+, Mario was 4th 6+ and Jeff Smith was 5th with around 6.
There was a big hassle with DFG for not having the correct permits for the lake (New Melones vs Anderson). During the fishing they boarded all the boats, made a license & safety check then had us show them our fish. Later it was announced that if we removed and weighed-in any fish that Darwin would receive three fines. So we all did a weigh-in on the water, recorded the totals with our partners and then released the fish before coming into the launch area. Afterwards they also checked each livewell in the parking lot to insure no one had any fish.
Almost everyone then headed to Red Robin for the trophy and results. It was nice to see Darwin made it out of handcuffs (just kiddin) in time for the official result announcement.
Seriously though, we need to be diligent in having the correct paper work if we change a tournament location. Obviously it is better not to change if at all possible. Also the TD and president should both have copies of our updated permits and rules in their boats at all times during club sanctioned events.
